Mohel FAQDoes a mohel need to be trained?
The mohel undergoes years of extensive training and internship. Is there a certification board? Yes, there are two main certification boards, one in Israel, the other in New York State. Rabbi Tzvi Fischer is certified through the International Bris Milah Association in New York State. Does it hurt the baby? A mohel uses advanced techniques, and is very careful to minimize the pain to the newborn. What does the mohel help us with? Will the mohel be available before and after the bris? The mohel will visit before and after the bris - beforehand to make sure the baby is ready for the procedure, and afterwards to help with the aftercare. The mohel often works in close contact with the baby’s pediatrician. |
